Goodbye for Now

Three months have come and gone faster than I would have believed in September. I've seen so many things in my time volunteering with LEAD Asia and each one has changed me in a small way.

I now know the smell of a basmati rice field just before harvest. I believe that giant eels exist. And I know that the band Aqua has somehow spread their music to places I would never expect!

Meet the latest LEADster

Hi, I’m Denise – the newest squad member of LEAD Asia. While I was working with SIL in Chad, Africa—learning to sweat gracefully day and night—I also had the opportunity to observe and support the work of literacy, multi-lingual education, and community development among the 130+ minority language groups in this amazingly diverse sub-Saharan country. I also met members of the greater non-profit community and gleaned from their experience of working with communities to dig wells, dry and sell mangoes, promote HIV/AIDS awareness, fund literacy projects, and the like.

The Power of Discrimination

Thoughts from Isaac

Traveling in southern Asia has made me realize what an amazing ability discrimination is. I know, we're all told that discrimination is evil. But hear me out.

Discrimination is the ability to apply knowledge based on previous experiences to a current or future situation. Without this ability, we would not be able to function. Picture a baby encountering a new situation. He has no prior experiences from which to form expectations. What does he do? He cries! Without the power of discrimination, he is unable to function.
